　イルカたち と クジラたち が、せんそう を していました。
　Dolphins and whales were in the middle of a war.

　いくさ は ながびいて、ますます はげしく なってきました。
　The war went on and became even more furious.。

　そのとき、いっぴき の ハゼ が すいめん に かお を だしました。
　Suddenly, one goby appeared out of water.

　そして、
　And it said,

「イルカさんたち、クジラさんたち、せんそう は やめなさい。
“Dolphins and whales, please stop fighting.

　わたし が りょうほう の いいぶん を きいて なかなおり させて あげましょう」
　Let me listen to both side of the story and help you make peace with each other.“

と、いいました。

　これを きいた いっぴき の イルカ は、
　Having heard of this proposal, one of the dolphins exclaimed,

「おまえ みたいな ちっぽけな さかな に、なかなおり させられる なんて、そんな みっともない こと が できるか。
“It’s a shame if we let a small fish like you reconcile us.

　それ くらい なら、みんな しんで しまう まで せんそう を つづける ほう が ましだ」
　I’d rather keep fighting till all of us die.”



　ハゼ の ゆうき は みとめます が、ちから の ない もの が かんがえなし に こうどう しても、ちから の ある もの は したがって くれません。
　The goby was indeed brave, but ones with power won’t listen to those without power who act without thinking.
