　ツバメ が カラス に じまん しました。
　A swallow boasted to a crow

「わたし は アテネ うまれ なのよ。
”I was a girl born in Athens, you know.

　それも ただ の むすめ じゃなくて、おひめさま なの。
　And not just a normal girl, I was a princess.

　アテネ の おうさま の むすめ なのよ。
　I'm the daughter of the King of Athens.

　でもね、テレウス と いう おうさま には、ひどい こと を されたわ。
　But a king named Tereus did a terrible thing to me.

　そのひと は わたし の した を きって しまったの」
　He (turned me into a bird and) cut my tongue.”

　カラス は あきれて、
　The crow got tired of the swallow's chatter and said

「まあ、あなた が した を きられて いなかったら、どうなって いたでしょう。
"Well, I wonder what you would be like if your tongue hadn't been cut!

　した を きられても そんな に よく しゃべる の ですから」
　I mean, even with your tongue cut you chatter this much.”



　うそ は うそ を ついている うち に、しぜん と ボロ が でる ものです。
　While you're telling a lie, the truth will naturally come out.
