　ハチ と シャコ が、のど が かわいて たまらない ので、おひゃくしょう の ところ へ みず を もらい に いきました。
　A bee and a francolin were very thirsty, and then they went to a farmer to get some water.

「みず を すこし くれれば、その かわり に シャコ は ブドウばたけ を たがやしますし、
They said to the farmer, “If you give us water, the francolin will plow your vineyard,

　ハチ は どろぼう を さして おいはらって あげましょう」
　and the bee will sting thieves to get them away.”

と、いうと、おひゃくしょう は、
　Then the farmer answered,

「わし には ウシ が にとう いて、やつら は なに も やくそく しないのに なんでも やってくれる。
“I have two cows, and they do whatever I need even though I don't ask them to,

　だから、あんたたち に なにか くれて やる より も、ウシたち に なにか を やる ほう が いいよ」
　so it would be better for me to give something to them rather than giving something to you.”

　この おはなし は、くちさき だけ の やくそく で さき に ほうしゅう を もらおう と する ひと を、
　This story tells us that we should never trust those

　けっして しんよう しては いけない と いう こと を おしえています。
　who would make an empty promise to get what they want before fulfilling the promise.
