　ウシ が みず を のんでいて、ガマ の こ を ふみつぶし ました。
　While a cow was drinking water, it stepped on a baby frog to death.

　そのば に いなかった ははおや が やってきて、
　In the meantime, when the baby frog's mother came back to her children,

　そのこ の きょうだいたち に、あのこ は どこに いるの と ききました。
　she asked them where the missing one was.

「おかあさん、しんじゃったよ。
“Mom, he's dead now.

　つい さっき、おおきな よつあし が やってきて、ひづめ で うえ から つぶして しまったんだ」

　そこで ガマ の ははおや は、からだ を ふくらませて、
　Then the mother blew up her body, and asked,

「その けもの は、これ くらい おおきいかった かい？」
“Was the beast as big as this?”

と、ききますと、こどもたち は ははおや に、
　The children answered,

「だめだよ。
“No way, mom!”

　あの けもの の よう に おおきく ならない うち に、じぶん の ほう が はじけるよ」
　Before you get as big as the beast, you'll blow up yourself.”

と、いいました。
