　こどもたち が あつまって、おしゃべり を しています。
　There are a few kids gathered, talking about something.

「この あいだ、ネコ を もらった けど、なまえ が まだ ないんだ。
　A boy said, “I got a cat the other day. But it doesn’t have a name yet,

　ほか の ネコ に まけない ような つよい なまえ を つけよう と おもうんだけど、なんて いう なまえ が いいだろう？」
　I want to name it to be the strongest of all cats. Tell me if you have an idea.”

「そりゃあ、あおぞら と つける と いいよ。あおぞら は おおきくて、きもち が いいからね」
　And his friends said to him one after another.
“Well, you should name it ‘blue sky’. It sounds so huge and nice.”

「いやいや、あおぞら は くも には かなわないよ。だから、くも と つけなよ」
“Maybe a cloud is better than a blue sky. Why don’t you name it ‘cloud’?”

「それでも、くも は かぜ には かなわないよ。かぜ に ふきとばされて しまうよ」
”No, cloud can’t be stronger than a wind. It will be blown away.”

「それじゃあ、かぜ と つけようか？」
“Then…should I name it ’wind’?” said the boy.

「いや、だめだ。かぜ は いえ の かべ には かなわないよ。いえ の かべ は、かぜ を とおさないもの」
“I don’t think so. A wind can’t be stronger than a wall. See, wall is a windproof.”

「ほんとだね。では、かべ と つけよう」
“That’s true. Okay, let’s name it ‘wall’!”

「いや、かべ も ネズミ に かじられて、あな が あくよ」
“Wait a minute. A wall can be bitten by a rat.”

「そんなら、ネズミ に しよう」
“Well then, lets name it ‘rat’.”

「いやいや、ネズミ も、ネコ には かなわない」
“But hey, a rat is no match for a cat.”

「なるほど。いっそ の こと、ネコ と いう な に しておこう」
“Right. Then let’s name it just simply ‘cat’.”

「そうだね、それ が いいよ」
　And they all said, “That’s a great idea!”
