　ライオン と ロバ が そうだん して、いっしょ に かり に いきました。
　The lion and the donkey arranged to go and hunt together.

　やせい の ヤギ が たくさん いる ほらあな まで くると、ライオン は いりぐち に じんどって、
　When they went to a cave where the wild goats lived, the lion stayed at the entrance,

　ヤギ が でてくる のを まちかまえ ました。
　waiting for the goats to come out.

　ロバ は ほらあな の なか に はいって、ヤギたち の あいだ を とびまわり ながら おおきな こえ で ないて、ヤギ を おいだしました。
　The donkey entered the cave and cried in a loud voice, jumping among the goats and forcing them out of the cave.

　ライオン は でてくる ヤギ を、つぎつぎ に つかまえました。
　The lion captured the goats that came out of the cave.

　おおく の ヤギ を つかまえた とき、ロバ は ほらあな から でてきて、
　After the lion captured many goats, the donkey came out from the cave.

「どうです。わたし が ゆうかん に たたかった おかげ で、ヤギ を おいだす こと が できたじゃ ありませんか」
“Did you see? Because I fought bravely in there, all the goats ran out of the cave!”

と、ライオン に じまんしました。
　the donkey said proudly to the lion.

　すると ライオン は、
　The lion said,

「まったくだ、おまえ が ロバ だと しって いなければ、わし だって ふるえあがった だろうよ」
“Sure, if I didn’t know you were a donkey, I would be scared to death too”



　じぶん の じつりょく を しっている ひと の まえ で じまんばなし を すれば、からかわれる のが あたりまえ です。
　You cannot brag in front of a person who knows you well or else they will just laugh at you.
