       There was a samurai on approach to Sumiyoshi  Shrine. He was at a loss about how to stop  his long-lasting hiccups. 
 
 “I wish someone could help me get rid of my  hiccups. I’m willing to give a reward.” 
 
 Then, a beggar, who was lying on the roadside, got  up slowly and exclaimed suddenly, 
 
“I’ll avenge my parents’ death. Say your prayers!” 
 
brandishing a bamboo stick. 
 
“Not so fast! I have no reason to be avenged. Calm  down.” 
 
 Then the beggar quickly softened his voice and  said, 
 
“Have your hiccups gone yet?” 
 
“Oh yes, it did stop.” 
       
      “Then please spare me some change as a reward.”
