・方法(Procedure)

　男の子は女の子の、女の子は男の子の格好をさせると、子供が丈夫に育つとの風習があります。
(There is some custom that, if a boy is dressed like a girl and a girl is dressed like a boy, the boy and the girl will grow up strong.)

　神様の目をごまかすとの理由らしいです。
(They say it is meant to cheat the God’s eyes.)

　服装ではなく、性別の違う人形を持たせる方法もあります。
(There is another way, which is to give a girl doll to a boy and a boy doll to a girl, instead of having them dressed like the opposite gender.)

　また、生まれたての赤ちゃんに人形を持たせると、赤ちゃんに起こる悪い事を人形が身代わりで受けてくれるとの風習もあります。
(Also, there is another custom that, if you give a doll to a newborn baby, the doll will take whatever bad happening to the baby on behalf of the baby. )

・注意点(Important point.)

　性別の違う服装や人形は、3歳(または7歳)まで続けると良いと言われています。
(They say, if you give a boy/girl a doll or clothes of the opposite gender until he/she turns three (seven), this will work well.)
