　むかしむかし、あるところに、大きな大きな墓場がありました。
　Once upon a time in a certain place, there was a really large boneyard.

　ここにはたくさんの死んだ人の魂が眠っていて、
　Many soul of the dead were sleeping there.

　どの魂もみんな、もう一度生き返りたいと思っていました。
　And every soul wishes for its revival again.

　ある日の事、一人のおばあさんが死んで、
　One day, an old woman died.

　この墓場にほうむられました。
　And she was buried in this boneyard.

　でも、おばあさんは、永い眠りにつこうとはしませんでした。
　However, she didn’t want to go to her rest.

「ああ、生きたい。生きたい」
“I wanna live. I wanna live!”

　おばあさんはそう言いながら土をかきわけて、
　She was saying so while she squeezed dust.

　お墓の中から上半身を出して来たのです。
　And she struggled to a sitting position out of her grave.

　ところが外はたいへんに寒かったので、
　Though, it was so cold above ground.

　おばあさんは上半身を出したままブルブルと震えました。
　She was shivering with her upper body on to the ground.

「ああ、寒い、寒い」
“Oh my god! It’s cold, it’s cold!”

　するとそこへ、一人の男の子が通りかかりました。
　Then, a boy walked pass her.

　おばあさんは、男の子に言いました。
　The old woman asked the boy.

「坊や。良い子だから、ここに火を持って来ておくれ。
“Hello, boy. You are good boy, so please bring a fire to me.”

　この冷え切った体を、暖めるから。
　I want to warm my stone-cold body.

　体が暖まればここから出られるし、ここから出ればあたしは生き返られるんだ」
　If my body becomes warm, I will come out of here. If I come out of here, I will come back to life!”

「・・・・・・」
　Silence

　でも男の子は、首を横に振りました。
　But the boy declined her request.

「坊や、お願いだから火を持って来ておくれよ」
“Please, dear boy. Bring a fire to me!”

「・・・・・・」
　Silence

　おばあさんがいくら頼んでも、男の子はおびえたように首を横に振るだけです。
　How hard the old woman asked the boy, the boy only to say no with fear.

「ああ、こんなに寒くては、まだ地面の中にいた方がましだね」
“Well, it’s too cold. I prefer to under the ground than coming out of my place.”

　寒さが我慢出来なくなったおばあさんは仕方なく、またお墓の中に入って行きました。
　She got impatient with cold and Go back into her grave reluctantly again.

　おばあさんはそれっきり、
　After that time,

　二度と外へは出て来ませんでした。
　the old woman would never go out of her grave.
