　ロバ が ライオン の かわ を かぶって あるきまわり、どうぶつたち を おどかして いました。
　A donkey in the lion's skin was walking around and threatening other animals.

　そのうち に、キツネ が きたので、
　After a while, a fox appeared.

「あいつ も、おどかしてやろう」と、かんがえました。
”Well, I'm going to threaten him.”

と、かんがえました。
　the donkey thought.

　ところが キツネ は こえ を きいて、すぐに ロバ の こえ だと わかりました。
　However, when the fox heard the donkey's voice, he spotted that the donkey was in the lion's skin.

「おあいにくさま。
　The fox said, ”Bad luck!

　ぼく だって、おまえ の なきごえ を きいた こと が なければ、ふるえあがった だろう けどね」
　If I had never heard your voice, I would have been threatened by your look.”



　あたま が からっぽ の ひと でも、きれい に きかざって ふんぞりかえっている と えらそう に みえます が、
　Even people who do not know anything might look noble if they dress nicely and act proudly,

　いったん はなし を はじめる と、たちまち しょうたい が ばれてしまう もの です。
　but once they start to talk, their true identities will tend to come out.
