　うつくしい しっぽ が じまん の キツネ が、ワナ に はさまれて しっぽ を きられて しまいました。
　A fox was trapped and his beautiful tail was cut off.

　キツネ は はずかしくて、もう いきて いられない と おもう ほど でした。
　The fox felt so ashamed that he didn't even want to stay alive anymore.

「しかし、・・・まてよ」
"Wait a second,"

と、キツネ は かんがえました。
　the fox hit on an idea.

「もしも なかま の キツネ が ぜんぶ しっぽ を きれば、おれ の みっともない すがた も めだたなく なる。
"If all of my fellow foxes lose their tails, my ugly appearance can be hardly noticeable.

　・・・よし、みんな に しっぽ を きる よう に すすめて みよう」
　Ok! I'll suggest them cutting off their tails."

　こう けっしん した キツネ は、なかま を ぜんぶ あつめて、
　The fox made up his mind and then gathered all the fellows.

「きみたち、そんな ながい しっぽ なんて、みぐるしくて おもたい だけ じゃないか。
"Don't you guys think that long tail looks ugly and heavy?

　きって しまった ほう が らく だぜ」
　You would feel great if you cut it off,"

と、いいました。
　he said to them.

　すると、なかま の いっぴき が いいました。
　Then, one of the other foxes said to him,

「おいおい、そう やれば、きみ が とく する から そう いうん だろ」
"I know what you're up to. You're suggesting this to us to make yourself feel better, aren't you?"

「・・・・・・」
"….."



　この おはなし は、なかま の ため では なく じぶん の りえき の ため に なかま へ ちゅうこく しても、
　This story tells you that

　だれ も きいて くれない と いう こと を おしえて います。
　nobody wouldn't listen to you if you advised your fellows not for themselves but yourself.
