　あるとき ヘルメス は、いちだい の くるま に うそ や ペテン や サギ を まんさい して せかいじゅう を まわり、
　With the vehicle filled with lies, frauds and deceits, Hermes had been traveling across the world

　かっこく に すこしずつ ぶんぱい して いました。
　and dispensing a little portion of them to each country during his trip.

　ところが アラブじん の くに に さしかかった とき、くるま が きゅう に こわれて しまいました。
　However, when he got to the country of the Arabs. the vehicle broke down all of a sudden.

　すると アラブじんたち は、その つみに が こうかな しなもの で あると かんちがいして のこらず ぬすむ と、
　The Arabs thought all the loaded goods must be of great value, so they stole everything from the vehicle,

　ヘルメス が ほか の くに へ いけないよう に しました。
　making Hermes stuck in the country of the Arabs.



　この おはなし は、
　This story ends with an explanation;

「ほか の どの こくみん にも まして、アラブじん は うそつき で ペテンし で ある。
“The Arabs lie the most, and are the most dishonest kind of all the people across the world.

　じっさい、かれら の した は しんじつ を かたる こと が ない」
　As a matter of fact, they never tell a truth.”。

　と、いう せつめい で おわって います。
