　イノシシ が き の そば に すわって、せっせ と キバ を といで いました。
　A boar was grinding his fangs next to the tree.

　それ を みた キツネ が、ふしぎそう に たずねました。
　Then a fox saw him, and wonderingly asked,

「りょうし に おいかけられて いる わけ でも、きけん な わけ でも ない のに、
“You are not being chased by the hunters, or you're not in a dangerous situation.

　どうして キバ を といで いるの ですか？」
　Why are you grinding your fangs?”

「たしかに、いま は きけん では ない ので、キバ を とがなくても だいじょうぶ。
“You're right. I'm not in a dangerous situation, so there's no definite need to grind my fangs at the moment.

　しかし、きけん な こと が おそいかかってきた とき には、キバ を といでいる ひま は ないだろう。
　But when I encounter unexpected dangerous situations, there won't be any time to grind them.

　めんどう でも、こうして キバ を といで おけば、
　Even though it's a bit pain in the neck, if I grind them in my spare time,

　いま すぐ に きけん が きても、だいじょうぶ なんだよ」
　I can get ready to take actions against any unexpected dangerous encounters in no time.”



　この おはなし は、あぶない め に あう まえ に、ひごろ から しっかり と そなえておく こと が たいせつ だと おしえて います。
　This story tells us that it is important to be ready for unexpected dangerous situations on a routine basis before actually facing them.
