Let's make an origami Origami Club Cherry Blossoms

　むかしむかし、彦一(ひこいち)と言う、とてもかしこい子どもがいました。
　Once upon a time, there was a very clever child named Hikoichi.

　ある日の事、彦一の家の隣に、ある村の長者(ちょうじゃ)が引っ越してきました。
　One day, a village rich person moved in next to Hikoichi's house.

　彦一は貧乏でも花が好きで、ウメやサクラを大事に育てています。
　Hikoichi loves flowers even though he is poor, and he takes great care of the plum and cherry blossoms.

　それから何年かして彦一が大切に育てたサクラが、かきねごしに枝を広げて見事な花を咲かせました。
　A few years later, the cherry blossoms that Hikoichi had carefully planted finally bloomed, spreading their branches over the fence.

　すると長者が、それを見つけて、
「かきねごしに出た花は、こっちの物じゃ。折(お)ろうとちぎろうと、わしのかって。文句はあるめえ」
と、見事なサクラの木の枝を、ボキボキとへし折っていくのです。
　Then the rich person saw it and said, "The flowers over the fence are mine. Whether I fold them or tear them off, it's up to me. I'm sure you won't complain." He snaps the branches of the beautiful cherry tree.

「ああっ。なんとかわいそうな事を」
"Ahhh. What a pity."

　目の前でせっかくの花を折られた彦一は、くやしくてたまりません。
　Hikoichi was frustrated that someone snapped his flowers destroy them in front of him.

　そこで、折られたサクラの仇討ちを考えました。
　So, Hikoichi thought about getting back on him because of the broken cherry blossoms.

　それからしばらくたった、月夜の晩の事です。
　It was some time later, on a moonlit night.

　彦一は自分の庭先に、ナベ、カマ、タライを並べて、にぎやかに叩き出したのです。
　Hikoichi set up the pots, sickles, and basins in front of his garden and began to make deafening noises.

♪チンチン、カンカン、ドンドンドン
♪Ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, dong

　あまりの騒ぎに、長者がビックリして家から出てきました。
　The rich man was surprised by so much noise, so he came out of the house.

「やい彦一。うるさいぞ！　何をしているんだ！」
"Hey, Hikoichi. Shut up! What the hell are you doing!?"

　そしてかきねのすきまから、彦一の家をのぞき込んだその時です。
　And that's when he looked into Hikoichi's house through a gap in the fence.

　待ちかまえていた彦一が、大きな鉄のハサミでチョイッと長者のダンゴ鼻をはさみつけたのです。
　Hikoichi, who was waiting for him, took a pair of large iron scissors and snapped the rich person's pug nose.

「いててててえ！　はなせ彦一。わしの鼻がちぎれる。こら、はなせ！」
"Hey, hey, hey! Let me go, Hikoichi. My nose will be torn off. Hey, let me go!"


「いや、はなさん。かきねごしに出た鼻(花)は、こっちのもんじゃ。折ろうがちぎろうが、わしのかってじゃ。文句はあるめえ。さて、このきたない鼻では、あのサクラの花のかわりにもならんが、まあええか」
"No, I won't let go, the nose (flower; both are pronounced “hana” in Japanese) over the fence is mine. Whether I fold them or tear them off, it's up to me. I'm sure you won't complain. Well, this crappy nose is no substitute for those cherry blossoms, but it can't be helped."

　そう言って長者の鼻を切り取ろうとしたので、長者は涙をポロポロ流しながら言いました。
　As he said so, he was about to cut off the rich man's nose, but the rich man said, with tears streaming down his face,

「彦一、わしが悪かった。米を一俵(ぴょう)やるから、はなしてくれ」
"Hikoichi, I'm sorry. I'll give you a bale of rice, just let me go."

「たったの一俵では、はなさん」
"For a single bale, I won't let you go."

「なら、二俵やる」
"You can have two bales, then."

「二俵でも、はなさん」
"Two bales, but I won't let you go."

「ならば三俵。いや、四俵でどうだ」
"Three bales, then. No, how about four bales?"

　こうして彦一は長者をさんざん痛めつけたうえ米を五俵も取り上げて、やっとはなしてやったという事です。
　However, Hikoichi was not satisfied with the offer so he beat up the rich man, took away five bales of rice and finally let the rich man go.
