　カラス が はくちょう を みて、その はね の いろ を うらやましがりました。
　Looking at a swan, a crow became envious of the white-colored feathers.

　あんな に しろく なる のは、みず で からだ を あらっている からだと おもい、
　He thought the swan must have washed own feathers with water, and that was why they looked white.

　いつも エサ を ひろっている しんでん を はなれて、いけ や かわ の そば に すむこと に しました。
　Therefore, the crow left a temple where he always picked up his food, and moved to a place near a pond and a river.

　ところが、いくら からだ を あらって みても はね の いろ は かわらず、
　However, his feathers did not turn white even after washing them with water many times and what is worse,

　それどころか しんでん に いる とき の ように たべもの が おちて いない ため、
　he died of hunger because he had not been able to find food as before ever since leaving the temple.

　とうとう うえて しんで しまい ました。
