　ヘビ と カニ が、おなじ ばしょ に くらして いました。
　A snake and a crab lived in the same place together.

　カニ は ヘビ に たいして、いつも そっちょく で やさしく していました。
　The crab was always open and kind to the snake.

　けれども ヘビ は いつも ひねくれて、いじわる でした。
　The snake was, however, always cynical and mean to the crab.

　カニ は ヘビ を いましめて、
　The crab warned the snake,

「あなた も、もっと こころ を まっすぐ に して、すなお に なりなさい。
“Be more straight-minded and honest.

　わたし が あなた に している よう に、やさしく なりなさい」
　As I do for you, you should be nice.”

と、いいました が、ヘビ は ぜんぜん いう こと を ききません。
　But the snake didn’t listen to him at all.

　しまい に カニ は がまん できなく なって、
　At last, the crab could no longer stand the snake,

　あるひ、ヘビ が ねむっている とき に、のど を ハサミ で しめて ころして しまいました。
　and one day while the snake was sleeping, the crab wrung the neck with his scissors and killed the snake.

　ながなが と のびて しんで しまった ヘビ を みて、カニ は いいました。
　Looking at the snake died with his body straitened, the crab said,

「やれやれ、しんで しまって から まっすぐ のびたって、しかたがないでしょう。
“Well, well. There’s no point in being straight after you die.

　わたし が ちゅうい していた とき に まっすぐ に なって いたら、しなない で すんだ のに」
　If you were straightened when I told you, you didn’t have to die.”



　カニ の やりかた も どうか と おもいます が、
　This is not a very nice way to do,

　この おはなし は、いっしょうけんめい つくして くれている ひと に いじわる する ひと は、その うち いたいめ に あう こと を おしえています。
　but this story tells if one is always mean to others,who are dedicated to him, he may get his fingers burnt sooner or later.
