　アテネ の まち の ある おとこ が、おかね を たくさん かりて いました。
　A man in Athens had a huge amount of debt.

　かした ひと が きて、はやく おかね を かえせ と いいましたが、
　Then a man who lent the money asked him to return the money once possible.

「わたし は びんぼう で、とても おかね は かえせません。
“I'm too poor to return the money now.

　しばらく まってください」
　Please wait for a while.

と、たのみました。
　The man begged the lender.

　しかし、あいて は しょうち しません。
　However, the lender did not accept his request.

　そこで おとこ は、たった いっぴき だけ かっていた メス の ブタ を つれてきて、
　Then the man brought his only livestock, a female pig to the lender, and said,

「みていて ください。これが うれたら、おかね を かえします」
“Please wait for a bit longer. If I can sell this pig, I will return the money.”

と、いいました。

　まもなく、ブタ の かいて が あらわれました。
　The pig was sold shortly after.

「この ブタ は、たくさん こども を うむ かね？」
The buyer asked, “Does this pig breed a lot?”

「ええ、どっさり うみますとも。
“Yes, of course.

　これは とくべつ な ブタ なの です。
　This is a special pig.

　なにしろ あき の まつり には、メス の こども だけ を たくさん うみますし、
　In the fall festivals, it breeds lots of female piggies,

　なつ の まつり には、オス の こども ばかり うむ の ですよ」
　and in the summer festivals, it breeds lots of male piggies.”

　かいて が きいて ビックリ していますと、おかね を かした ひと が そば から いいました。
　While the buyer was surprised to hear that, the lender broke in,

「あなた、こんな こと で おどろいては ダメ ですよ。
“You shouldn't be surprised by that.

　この ちょうし だと、いま に この ブタ は、はる の まつり には こヤギ を たくさん うむ こと に なります からね」
　This pig will probably breed lots of goats in the spring festivals at this rate in the future.”



　すこし でも おかね を もうける ために、ありえない うそ でも へいき で いう ひと が、
　There are so many people who would make up improbable things to make more money,

　この アテネ の おとこ に かぎらず たくさん います。
　and this man in Athens is no exception.
