カ と ライオン
The Mosquito and The Lion

　カ が ライオン の ところ へ いって、いいました。
　A mosquito approached a lion, and said,

「ぼく は きみ が こわく なんか ないよ。
“I'm not afraid of you.

　どうぶつ の おうさま と いばっている けど、きみ は ぼく より つよく なんか ない。
　You bluff that you're the king of the animals, but you're not stronger than me.

　もし、きみ の ほう が つよい と いう の なら、その しょうこ を みせて ごらん。
　If you insist you are stronger, why don't  you prove it yourself?

　つめ で ひっかいたり、かみついたり できるって。
　Can you scratch or bite me?

　・・・まあ、むだ な こと だけどね。
　Well, I don't think you can, though.

　なにしろ ぼく は、きみ より ずっと つよいんだから。
　Because I'm stronger than you.

　・・・あれ、うたがって いるの。
　Oh, can't you believe what I'm saying?

　なんなら いますぐ、きみ と いっきうち しよう」
　If you want, I can challenge you to a one-on-one fight.”

　そして すぐさま、カ は ライオン に おそいかかり ました。
　Then the mosquito started to attack the lion right away.

　ライオン の はな の あな の まわり の、け の ない ところ を ねらって、
　The mosquito bit the area around the lion's nostrils

　ちくり、ちくり と さした の です。
　where there was no hair.

　ライオン は かゆくて たまらず、じぶん の つめ で そこ を ひっかいて ちだらけ に なりました。
　Because the area became so itchy, the lion could not help but scratch his nose with his nails, and he was covered with lots of blood.

「こうさん、こうさん」
“I surrender! I surrender!”

　ライオンは、しょうぶ を あきらめました。
　The lion said, and gave up fighting against the mosquito.

　カ は ライオン を まかした ので、
　After the mosquito beat the lion,

「ブウウーン」
　he made a triumphant whirring noise

と、かちどき を あげ、
　with his feathers,

「♪ブブブン　♪ブブブン」
　and flew away

と、しょうり の うた を うたいながら、とびたちました。
　with singing a triumphal song.

　ところが クモ の す に ひっかかって、クモ の えじき に なって しまいました。
　However, the mosquito got trapped in a spider's web, and became the prey of the spider.

　クモ に くわれる と わかった とき、カ は なきべそ を かいて いいました。
　When the mosquito realized that he was about to be eaten by the spider, he said whiningly,

「ライオン よりも つよい この ぼく が、
“I'm the one that is stronger than lions,

　クモ なんて いう、けちな やつ の ため に しぬ とは。やれやれ、なんて ことだ」
　but, none the less, I'm dying for such a miserly spider.

　やれやれ、なんて ことだ」
　What a pity thing!”


　この おはなし は、つよい もの に かちながらも、ちょっとした ふちゅうい から よわい もの に まけて しまう ひと に おしえて あげる おはなし です。
　This is a story for those who win against the strong, but lose against the weak because of their little carelessness.
