まけず ぎらい の アマガエル

　むかしむかし、あるところ に、とても ヘソまがり の アマガエル が いました。
　A long time ago, there lived a tree frog which has very twisted mind.

　あるひ の こと、アマガエル が ともだち の アカガエル と あそんで いると、とつぜん、うま の ひづめ の おと が ちかづいて きました。
　One day, when he was playing with his friend tree frog, they heard a sound of hoofs suddenly.

「あっ、アマガエルくん！　こっちに うま が はしってくるよ。
“Oh my gosh, my friend tree frog! Here comes a horse!

　はやく にげない と、けりとばされて しまうよ」
　We have to run away right now, or we will have a hard kick!”

　しかし アマガエル は、むね を はる と いばって いいました。
　But the tree frog puffed his chest up and said proudly,

「ははーん、よわむし だな。
“Aha, you are such a wimp.

　たかが、うま ぐらい で にげる ものか。
　It is not more than a horse. Why should I run away?

　でも、おまえ は こわかったら にげる と いいよ」
　But if you are afraid, you just run away by yourself.”

「この ヘソまがり！　かって に しろ！」
“You are so twisted! Do what you want!”

　アカガエル は そういう と、みちばた の くさむら へと とびこみました。
　As he said, he jumped into the grasses along the street.

　すると そこへ、うま が ものすごい いきおい で はしって きた の です。
　Then the horse ran to the tree frog at a furious speed.

「わぁ、わぁ、なんて はやさ だ！」
“Oh my gosh! What a speed!”

　アマガエル も、あわてて にげよう と しました が、うま の ひづめ に ひっかけられて、
　He also urgently tried to run away, but was picked up with the hoof.

「グゲェーーーー！」
“Aiiieee!!!”

と、ひめい を あげながら とおく の ほう へ けりとばされて しまいました。
　As he was raising a shout, the horse kicked him to the far distance.

「おーい、だいじょうぶかい！」
“Hey, my friend! Are you all right?”

　アカガエル が しんぱい して くさむら から でていく と、
　When his friend got out of the grasses anxiously,

　アマガエル は おおきな めだま を しろくろ させて、め を まわして います。
　the tree frog was rolling his eyes and having dizziness.

「ねえ。だから、はやく にげよう と いった のに」
“I told you. You should have escaped with me.”

　ところが アマガエル は、よろよろ しながら も いばって いいました。
　However the tree frog stood up totteringly and said proudly,

「なにがだ？　おいら は、なんとも ないぞ」
“What are you talking about? I am totally all right.”

「でも、けりとばされた とき、
“But I heard when you were kicked,

　なさけないこえ で 『グゲェー！』 と、こえ を だした じゃないか」
you screamed “Aiiiieeee!!!” miserably.”

「いや、その、あれは だな、うま が おいら を ふんづけそう に なったから、
“No, that, that was, that was because the horse was stepping on me.

　『ふざけるな！』と、うま に どなって やったんだ」
　So I yelled at him “Stop fooling around!””

「それじゃあ、めだま を しろくろ させていた のは、どういう こと だい？」
“Then what is the reason for your eyes rolling?”

「ああ、あれ は だな、うま の やつ を『このやろー！』と、にらみつけて やったんだ」
“Oh, that, that was because I was glaring at him with feeling “You bastard!””

「それじゃ、さっき おきあがった とき、よろよろ していた のは？」
“Then what is the reason for you standing totteringly when you got up?”

「ああ、あれ は だな、なまいき な うま の やつ を、けとばそう と してたんだよ」
“Ah, that was because I was going to kick the insolent horse.”

「・・・はい、はい」
“… OK, All right. I got it.”

　まけずぎらい の アマガエル に、ともだち の アカガエル も、あきれて しまいました。
　The friend of the tree frog was amazed how absurdly stubborn he was.
