　ていしゅ が おおざけのみで、とても こまっている おかみさん が いました。
　There was a wife suffering from her husband who had been drinking too much.

　なんとかして よっぱらい の くせ を なおそう と さんざん かんがえて、ひとつ の さくせん を おもいつき ました。
　She really wanted him to quit the bad habit, so she came up with some plan.

　ていしゅ が いつも の よう に グデングデン に よっぱらって、しんだ よう に ねむりこん で いるとき を ねらって、
　When her husband was very drunk, and was sleeping like the dead as usual,

　おかみさん は ていしゅ の かた を かついで ぼち まで いきました。
　she carried him over her shoulder to the cemetery.

　そして、かこい の なか の おはか の あいだ に ねかせて、じぶん は いえ へ かえりました。
　She left him between graves in the enclosure, and went home.

　しばらくして、そろそろ よい が さめかけた と おもう ころ、
　After a while, when he was about to become sober,

　おかみさん は また ぼち に もどって、かこい の と を ドンドン たたきました。
　the wife went back to the cemetery, and knocked on a door on the wall.

「だれだ？！　と を たたいている やつ は？」と、よっぱらい ていしゅ が いいました。
”Who is it?! Who is knocking on the door?”

「しんだ ひとたち に、たべもの を はこぶ もの で あるぞ」と、おかみさん は、おもおもしい こえ で いいました。
”I'm the one that brings food to the dead.”

　すると、よっぱらい ていしゅ は、
　Then he said to her,

「たべもの なんか、いりません。どうぞ、わたし に さけ を もってきて ください。
”I don't need any food. Please bring me some alcohol.

　たべもの だけ で さけ が ない とは ひどい です」と、いう では ありませんか。
　It's awful to bring only food, and not to bring any alcohol.”

　おかみさん は、むね を かきむしって さけび ました。
　Finally she tore at her heart and cried out,

「ああ、なんと なさけない こと だろう。
”What a pitiable thing!

　おまえさん には、せっかく の さくせん も ぜんぜん ききめ が ないん だから ねえ。
　I thought hard to come up with this plan for you, but it doesn't do any good to you at all.

　こりる どころ か、ひどく なる ばっかり だよ。
　What is worse, your habit is now turning into something

　よっぱらう こと が くせ なんか で なくて、
　that is not called a habit anymore

　まるで うまれつき の せいしつ みたい に なって しまっている の だから」
　but more or less your nature.”



　この おはなし は、
　This story tells us that

　よくない こと を くりかえし くりかえして いると、しらない うち に しゅうかん が み に ついて しまって
　those of us who do something bad over and over again will make it a habit unconsciously,

　なおらなくなる から き を つけなければ いけない と、おしえています。
　and will not be able to overcome it, so we have to be careful on that.
