　むかしむかし、はたらきもの なのに、とても びんぼう な ふうふ が いました。
　A long time ago, there lived a very poor couple who work very hard.

　ある とし の くれ、ふたり が おおそうじ を している と、やせた ネズミ の ような もの が かみだな から でてきました。
　At one year end, when they were cleaning up their house thoroughly, they found a thin mouse-like figure on the household altar.

「わし は、びんぼうがみ だ、
“I am the god of poverty.

　おまえたち が あんまり まじめに はたらく から、わし は この いえ を でていくよ。
　You are working so hard that I decided to leave your house.

　たっしゃ でな」
 Keep yourself well.”

　そう いって びんぼうがみ は、ヨタヨタ と あるきだしました。
　And the god left with a waddling walk.

　すると ふうふ は、
　Then the couple said,

「びんぼうがみ と いっても、かみさま には かわり ありません。
“ Dear god, even if you say you are the god of poverty, you are still one of the gods.

　どうか、この いえ に いて ください」
　Please stay in our house.”

「うん？　わし は、びんぼうがみ だぞ」
“Really? I am the god of poverty, you know.”

「はい、びんぼうがみ さま。
“Yes, my god.

　たいせつ に します ので、どうか おねがい いたします」
　We will care about you. So please stay with us.”

と、いって、むりやり に びんぼうがみ を かみだな に おしもどし ました。
　The couple said so and pushed the god back on the household altar forcefully.



　それから ふうふ は まいにち かみだな に たべもの を そなえて、コツコツ と まじめ に はたらき つづけ ました。
　Since then, the couple offered food at household altar every day and kept working hard diligently.

　やがて きがつく と、いつのま にか ふうふ は おかねもち に なっていました。
　After a while and before they notice, the couple became rich.

　そこ で くら の ある、おおきな いえ を たてました。
　So they build a big house with a warehouse.



　きょう は、ひっこし の ひ です。
　Today is the day of their movement.

　ふうふ は、かみだな に むかって いいました。
　The couple talked to the household altar.

「さあ、びんぼうがみ さま。いっしょ に あたらしい いえ に まいりましょう」
“My god of poverty, shall we go to our new house together?”

　すると かみだな から は、きれいな きもの を きた かみさま が でてきた の です。
　Then the god appeared from the household altar dressed in a beautiful Kimono.

「おまえたち の おかげ で、これ このとおり。れい を いうぞ。これからも よろしくな」
“Thanks to you, see how I look like. I really appreciate it. All good wishes on our future. ”


　ふうふ に たいせつ に された びんぼうがみ は、いつのま にか ふくのかみ に なって いたのです。
　Because the couple cared the god so much, the god found himself being the god of wealth.
