　むかしむかし、とても さかなりょうり の すき な とのさま が いました。
　A long time ago, there lived a feudal lord who loved sea food very much.

　さかなりょうり でも、とく に タイ の しおやき が だいこうぶつ で、
　Especially, his favorite dish was a grilled sea bream with salt.

　ほか に たくさん の ごちそう が あっても かならず タイ の しおやき を つけない と きげん が わるく なる の でした。
　Although there were tens of other delicious dishes, he got angry if there was no sea bream.

　でも だいすき と いっても、ほんの に、さんくち はし を つける だけ で、ほとんど のこして しまいます。
　But even though it was his favorite dish, he just tasted a little and left the sea bream.

　ところ が あるひ の こと、とのさま は タイ の おもてがわ を きれい に たべおわる と けらい に いいました。
 One day, however, he ate all the face side of the sea bream and ordered his retainer,

「きょう の タイ は、とても おいしい ぞ。すぐ に かわり を もってこい」
“Today’s sea bream is delicious. Have me another one now.”

　さあ、おどろいた のは けらいたち です。
　Now the retainers got surprised.

　いつも に、さんくち ほど しか たべない ので、おかわり なんて ようい していません。
　The feudal lord always eat a little, so there was no second dish prepared.

　かと いって、これから ようい する と なる と、とても じかん が かかります。
　But if they were going to cook from then, it would take long time.

「はあ、その、あの・・・」
“Well, ah, ah…”

　どういって いいか わからず、けらいたち が おろおろ している と、あたま の よい ひとり の けらい が、
　No one knew what to say and what to do. Then one of the smart retainer said to the lord,

「かしこまりました。すぐ に おもち いたします」
“Certainly. I will get it for you right now.”

と、いって、タイ の のって いる さら を もって ろうか へ でる なり、すばやく タイ を ひっくりかえし ました。
　and he left to the corridor with the sea bream on the dish and he turned the sea bream upside down immediately.

　そして そのまま へや に もどって、とのさま の おぜん に おき、
　Then he returned to the room and put the dish on his lord’s table.

「おかわり を もってきました」
“Here is your second dish, sir.”

と、いった の です。
　He said to his lord.

「うむ。はやかったな」
“Right. It was quick.”

　なに も しらない とのさま は、これ を あたらしい タイ だと おもって に、さんくち はし を つける と、
　The feudal lord who didn’t know anything believed it was a new dish and he tasted a little bit.

「よいよい。この タイ は、さっき より も おいしいぞ」
“Good, good. This tastes better than before.”

と、いって、ニッコリ わらった と いう こと です。
　He said so and he smiled.
