にく を くわえた イヌ が、はし を わたって いました。
One day, there was a dog holding a piece of meat in his mouth and he was crossing a bridge.
ふと した を みると、かわ の なか にも にく を くわえた イヌ が います。
When he looked down the river, he found there was also a dog holding a piece of meat in his mouth.
イヌ は それを みて、おもい ました。
He looked at the dog and thought.
（あいつ の にく の ほう が、おおき そうだ）
“His piece of meat seems bigger than mine.”
イヌは、くやしくて たまりません。
He got so jealous of the dog.
（そうだ、あいつ を おどかして、あの にく を とって やろう）
“Oh, yes. I will make the dog surprised and when he drops the meat, I will get it.”
そこで イヌ は、かわ の なか の イヌ に むかって おもいっきり ほえました。
Then the greedy dog growled to the dog in the river.
「ウゥー、ワン！！」
“Woof! Woof!”
その とたん、くわえて いた にく は ポチャン と かわ の なか に おちて しまいました。
As soon as he opened his mouth, the meat in his mouth fell into the river with a splash.
「ああー、ぁぁー」
“Oh, no!”
かわ の なか には、がっかり した イヌ の かお が うつって います。
He saw a very disappointed dog in the reflection of the river.
さっき の かわ の なか の イヌ は、みず に うつった じぶん の かお だったのです。
Now he realized that it was his own reflection in the water, not another dog.
おなじ もの を もって いても、ひと が もっている もの の ほう が よく みえ、
Things always seem better if others own the same thing.
また、よくばる と けっきょく そん を する と いう おはなし です。
But you will lose everything if you get greedy.
