　むかし むかし の ある あつい ひ、ロバ が せなか に にもつ を いっぱい のせて、ヨタヨタ と あるいて いました。
　Once upon a time, a very hot day, there was a donkey staggering by loading too heavy cargo.

　はし を わたって いる とき、ロバ は あんまり あつい ので、くらくら して かわ に おちて しまいました。
　When he was crossing a bridge, he felt dizziness and fell into a river.

　すると、どうでしょう。
　Then look what happened,

　きゅう に せなか の にもつ が かるく なったのです。
　he felt his cargo suddenly getting lighter.

　ロバ の にもつ は しお だった ので、ぜんぶ、みず に とけて ながれて しまった のでした。
　Since it was salt, it all dissolved into a water.



　つぎ の ひ、ロバ  のかいぬし は うん と かるい にもつ を ロバ の せ に つみ ました。
　The next day, the owner of the donkey loaded very light cargo on donkey’s back.

　かわ に おちた ロバ を、すこし でも らく させて やろう と おもった のです。
　He wanted the donkey to take easy after falling into a river.

　しかし ロバ は、きのう の かわ が みえる と、こう おもい ました。
　But when the donkey saw a river nearby, he said to himself,

(かわ に おちれば、また、にもつ が かるく なる に ちがい ない)と、
　“If I fall again, the cargo will get lighter like yesterday.”

　そして、わざ と かわ に おちました。
　Then he fell into a river on purpose.

　ところ が にもつ は かわ の みず を すって、ズシン と いし の よう に おもく なり、ロバ の からだ に のしかかりました。
　But the cargo has begin to absorb a water and got heavy like a rock, leaned against donkey’s body.

　きょう の にもつ は、ワタ だった の です。
　Because the cargo this time was a cotton.

　ワタ は みず を すう と、どんどん おもく なって しまいます。
　A cotton becomes heavy when it absorbs a water.

　ロバ は じぶん の さくせん が しっぱい した こと に きづいた とき には もう おそく、とうとう おぼれて しんで しまいました。
　By the time donkey realized what happened, it was too late and donkey was drowned to death.



　この ロバ と おなじ よう に、にんげん も ずるい こと を やる ひと は、
　Like this donkey who cheats,

　うまく いった と おもって も おもいがけない ふこう に おちいる こと が あります。
　might will have a bad luck even it once brought him a good luck.
