　ある ところ に、うま と ロバ を かっている おとこのひと が いました。
　There was a man who had a horse and a donkey.



　あるひ の こと、おとこのひと は にひき を つれて たび に でかけました。
　One day, the man hit the trail with two of them.

　とちゅう で、ロバ は うま に いいました。
　On the way, the donkey said to the horse,

「あの、ぼく の にもつ を すこし もって くれませんか？　おもたくて、し に そうなんです」
“Well, can you help me carry some of my luggage? These are so heavy and killing me.”

「・・・・・・」
“……”

　でも、うま は しんどい のが きらい で、きこえない ふり を しました。
　The horse, however, pretended not to hear because he didn’t want to get tired.

　ロバ は もういちど、うま に たのみましたが、うま は また きこえない ふり です。
　The donkey asked the horse one more time, but he ignored again.

　すると つかれきった ロバ は バタリ と たおれて、そのまま しんで しまいました。
　Then the donkey who was totally worn out collapsed and soon died.

　それ を みた おとこのひと は、ロバ の にもつ を うま の せなか に のせました。
　The man saw what happened to the donkey and transferred all the donkey’s luggage onto the horse’s back.

　それ ばかりか しんだ ロバ の かわ を はいで、その かわ まで うま の せなか に のせた の です。
　What’s worse, the man removed the donkey’s hide and put it on the horse’s back as well.

「ああーぁ」
“Oh, no.”

　うま は、ためいき を つきました。
　The horse sighed.

「おれ は、バカだな。
“I feel so stupid.

　ちょっと の にもつ を もつ のを いやがった ため に ともだち の ロバくん は しんでしまうし、
　Just because I refused to carry some luggage, my friend donkey died,

　ロバくん の にもつ だけ で なく、ロバくん の かわ まで しょわされて しまったよ」
　and I ended up carrying not only the donkey’s luggage but also its hide.”



　これは、つよい もの が よわい もの を てつだって あげれば、どっち も たすかった という おはなし です。
　 This story tells us that if the strong one helped the weak one, both of them could’ve been saved.

　みんな も こまって いる ひと が いたら、たすけて あげて くださいね。
　When you see people in trouble, please help them.
