　やま の りょうし が、えもの を とってきました。
　A huntsman hunted an animal.

　うみ の りょうし も、カゴ に さかな を いっぱい とってきました。
　A fisherman caught a basket full of fish.

　とちゅう で ふたり は であいました。
　The two came across each other on the way home.

　やま の りょうし は はり で つった さかな の ほう が よい と おもい、
　The huntsman preferred the fish,

　うみ の りょうし は やま で とった けもの の ほう が よい と おもいましたので、えもの を とりかえました。
　and the fisherman preferred the animal from the mountain. So they exchanged what they had caught.

　それから ずっと、えもの を とりかえて は、めいめい よろこんで いました。
　From then on, they kept pleasing themselves by exchanging each other’s catch.

　すると あるひ、あるひと が ふたり に いいました。
　Then one day, a man said to the two,

「いま は めずらしい もの が おいしい かも しれない けれど、そのうち、まえ の もの が ほしく なりますよ」
“You may prefer something unusual for now, but soon you’ll miss what you had before.”



　どんなに めずらしい もの でも、それ に なれる と すぐ に あきて しまいます。
　Even the most unusual thing can be boring once you’ve got used to it.
