　みち の まんなか に はえている ため に、
　Happening to have grown in the middle of the road,

　とおりかかる ひと から いし を ぶつけられて ばかり いる クルミ の き が なげきました。
　a walnut tree, which was always thrown stones at by passersby, lamented,

「なさけない ことだ。
“What a miserable thing!

　ふつう なら、おいしい き の み が なる おかげ で、みんな から たいせつ に される ところ なのに、
　I should be normally appreciated and well taken care of by passersby because I bear tasty nuts,

　こんな ばしょ に うまれた ばかり に、こんな いたいめ に あわされる とは」
　but I'm having such a bitter experience because I happened to have grown up in the middle of the road.”



　この おはなし は、せっかく よい もの を もって いるのに、
　This story exemplifies people who have no luck and have a bitter experience

　うん が わるくて いや な おもい を させられる ひとびと を たとえて います。
　even though they have good values in themselves.
