The Goat and the Donkey

(Aesop’s Fables)

　A man kept a goat and a donkey.

　The goat was jealous of the donkey because he believed that the donkey was given more good food.

　So he intentionally said to the donkey,

　I feel sorry for you.

　You’ve been overworked turning the millstone and carrying heavy burdens

　all year long.

　Look, let me tell you something helpful.

　Pretend that you stumble over something and throw yourself into a hole.

　That way, you’ll be able to rest for a while.”

　So the donkey threw himself into a hole as advised by the goat and became totally bruised.

　The master called in a veterinarian.

“How can all these wounds be cured?”

　The veterinarian answered,

“Brew a goat’s lungs and give it to the donkey.

　The donkey will recover soon as it works well.”

　So the master killed his goat and made his donkey’s medicine.

　Those who use dirty tricks and try to entrap others

　will get hurt first.
