The Difference Between a Wolf and a Wild Dog
(Short stories of Edo)
Japanese ←→ Japanese ＆ English ←→ English
“I don’t know the difference between a wolf and a wild dog. I wonder if there’s a way to tell them apart,”
said a man. So the other man said,
“Why, you don’t know the difference?”
“Let me tell you, then.
First of all, when you find one that looks like a wolf, hit it with a stick.
If it’s a wild dog, it’ll run away for it is a coward.
If it’s a wolf, it’ll bite into your throat.”
