　ワナ に かかった カラス が、アポロン の かみ に、
　A trapped crow asked Apollo

「わたし を たすけて くださったら、こう を たいて おまつりします」
“If you will help me out of this trap, I will lit an incense and worship you.”

と、やくそく を して、たすけて もらいました。
　He promised the god, so the god helped him.

　ところが、いったん たすかる と やくそく は すっかり わすれて しまいました。
　However, once he was saved, he forgot his promise.

　この カラス は まもなく、また ワナ に かかって しまいました。
　The crow was caught in a trap again.

　カラス は こんどは アポロン の かみ は やめて、ヘルメス の かみ に、
　This time, he asked Hermes instead of Apollo.

「たすけて くださったら、おそなえもの を します」
“If you will help me, I will bear you offerings”

と、いって、すくい を もとめました。
　said the crow, and asked for help.

　しかし、ヘルメスは、
　However, Hermes said,

「バカものめ。
“You fool.

　はじめ に たすけてくれた かみ を ないがしろ に して、やくそく を やぶった おまえ を しんよう できる はず が ない だろう」
　How can I trust someone who neglected the promise made with Apollo.”



　おんじん に たいして おんしらず な こと を した にんげん は、だれから も たすけて もらえなく なります。
　If you are ungrateful to the ones you owe, others will stop helping you.
