　ゼウス の かみ は、もり に すむ どうぶつたち に、
　Zeus made an official notice to the forest animal,

《みな の なか で、いちばん うつくしい もの を おうさま に する》
“I will make the most beautiful being the King.”

と、いう おふれ を だしました。
上記　訳済

　すると そこへ、
　Then,

　こころ は やさしい が、はな は ひくく、け の はげた、みにくい わかザル が やってきて、
　a very kind, but bold and ugly monkey with short nose came

　おうさま に りっこうほ する と いいだしました。
　and said that he will stand as a candidate for the King.

　これを きいて、ほか の みんな は かれ を わらいもの に しました。
　The other animals started to laugh when they heard his words.

　しかし、そこへ みにくい わかザル の ははおや が あらわれ、みな に むかって いいました。
　However, the mother of the ugly monkey came and said

「かみさま が、むすこ を おう に なさるか どうか は わかりません。
“I don’t know if Zeus will make my son a King.

　しかし ははおや で ある この わたし には、むすこ が じょうひん で きひん が あり、
　But I know as a mother that my son is noble and dignified.

　そして、ここ に いる だれ より も うつくしい と いう こと が わかるのです」
　He is beautiful than any one of you.”



　ゼウス の かみ が わかザル を おうさま に したか どうか は わかりません が、
　We don’t know if Zeus made the young monkey a King.

　わかザル を いちばん よく しっている ははおや には、かれ が もっとも おうさま に ふさわしい と おもった の でしょう。
　However, the mother who knows the monkey well thought him the best choice as a King.

　かちかん は、ひと それぞれ ちがいます。
　Every people have different values.

　みため だけ で はんだん せず、あいて の なかみ で はんだん する よう に しましょう。
　Do not judge people by their appearances but by their characters within.
