　ある家に、ネズミを捕まえるのがとても上手なネコが一匹いました。
　In a house, there was a cat who is good at catching mice.

　おかげでネズミたちはいつもビクビク、巣からも出られず、お腹はいつもペコペコでした。
　The mice were always frightened by the cat, so they can’t go out and feel hungry.

　そこである日、ネズミたちが集まって会議を開きました。
　One day, The mice got together and had a meeting.

　すると、一匹の若いネズミが言いました。
　Then, one younger mouse said,

「ネコの首に鈴をつけましょう。
‘Shall we bell the cat?

　そうすれば、ネコが来るのがすぐにわかるでしょう。
　when the bell rings, we know that the cat’s coming.

♪チリンチリン
　when the bell tinkles,

と、音がしたら、さっさと逃げればいいのです」
　all we have to do is run away.’

　みんなは、手を叩いて喜びました。
　The mice clapped their hand in joy.

　その時、一匹の年寄りネズミが言いました。
　Just then, an elder mouse said,

「それは良い考えだ。だが、誰がネコの首に鈴をつけに行ってくれるのかな？」
‘It’s a good idea. But, who is going to bell the cat?’

‘・・・・・・’

‘・・・・・・’

　 とたんに、みんなは黙り込んでしまいました。
　At the moment, all fell silent.

　みんなネコを怖がって、鈴をつけに行くネズミは一匹もいなかったのです。
　The mice was frightened by the cat and no one is able to bell it.

　良い作戦があっても、それを実行出来る人がいなければ、どうにもなりません。
　There is no use making a good plan if no one can execute it.
