　ライオン が、ひるね を していました。
　One day a lion was taking a nap.

　そこへ ネズミ が きて ライオン の せなか へ のぼり、ちょろちょろ はしりました。
　And there came a mouse, went up the lion’s back and ran around there.

　ライオン は め を さまし、ネズミ を つかまえて たべようとしました。
　That awaken lion and he caught a mouse, tried to eat it.

「おたすけください。こんな ちっぽけな ネズミ なんて おいしく ありません。わたし を ゆるして くださったら、いつか かならず、あなた の おやく に たちますから」
“Oh please, I’m too little to taste,” said the mouse, “If you could spare my life, I swear to retreat your kindness.”

　ネズミ は ふるえながら、いっしょうけんめい に たのみました。
　The mouse was begging for his life, shaken.

「・・・・・・」
　The lion was in silence for awhile.

　ライオン は ネズミ が かわいそう に なり、だまって はなしてやりました。
　But then he felt pity for the mouse and let him go without saying anything.


　なんにちかして、ライオン は りょうし に つかまってしまいました。
　A few days later, the lion had caught by a hunter.

　じょうぶな ロープ の くびわ を つけられて、ライオン は にげること が できません。
　He was bound by the strong rope and had nowhere to run.

(ああ、わたし の じんせい も、これで おわりだ)
“Oh, my life is over,”

　ライオン が ガッカリ していると、あのとき の ネズミ が やってきて、するどい は で ロープを かみきり、ライオン を たすけてやりました。
said the lion in despair. Then the mouse came out of nowhere and gnawed the rope with his sharp teeth, saved the lion’s life.

「ありがとう。おかげ で いのちびろい を した」
“Thank you for saving me.”

　ライオン は ネズミ に おれい を いい、それから なかよく くらしました。
said the lion with gratitude. And they lived together happily ever after.



　この おはなし は、どんな に つよいもの でも、ときには よわいもの に たすけて もらわなければならない こと が ある。
　Even the strong one has a moment to be saved by the weak one.

と、いうこと を おしえています。
　That’s the moral of this story.
