It is a tale that has been passed down in Himeji Castel, known for Shirasagi Castel because of its breathtaking beauty, and also famous as a national treasure and a world heritage site.

Once upon a time, a rumor went around that the castle keep is haunted.

Due to the rumor, nobody got close to the castle keep.

One rainy night.
‘What is the identity of the ghost?’ Five samurai stayed overnight at the castle and talked.

Then, the youngest samurai said,
‘I’ll watch to make sure of the truth.’

He held a candle and went up the dark stairs of the castle keep.
Castle keep is a room located at the top of the castle.

When samurai arrived at the castle keep, a dim light was seen through from a space between the sliding doors.

When he was looking around the room,
‘Who is it?’
Someone spoke to him in the room.

Samurai introduced himself and told the reason to visit there.
‘Come in.’
He opened the sliding door fearfully.

There was a woman sitting at the desk.

Samurai almost screamed.

The woman with long hair wore twelve-layered ceremonial kimono and red hakama, a long pleated skirt worn over the kimono.
She was beautiful, but her pale face is not like a living person.

‘I’m Princess Osakabe.’
‘I’m a master of the castle.’
‘I’ll give you something to praise your bravery.’

Everyone asked him.

The tale reached the ears of the lord.

Next morning, the lord called up the young samurai,
‘Show me the piece of kabuto which was given by Princess Osakabe. ’
he asked to samurai.

The samurai gave the piece of kabuto to the lord.
‘Well, I have seen it before. Have a look.’

The lord went to a room and searched for the traditional armor and sword that have been passed down in the castle.

‘This is the one.’

He found an armor whose shikoro, made of iron and attached to the back and sides of armor to protect the jaw, is torn off.

He put the piece to the shikoro, so they matched perfectly.

‘She must be a superhuman.to tear the shikoro.’
We have to build Myojin shrine beside the castle keep in order not to be cursed with Princess Osakabe.’

From this moment, even the lord of the castle changed, the shrine has been enshrined for fear of Princess Osakabe.
